Japan Hands Over Boreholes and Classrooms to Amuria

 

The Embassy of Japan has handed overtwo projects that have been funded by its Grants Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) to the people of Amuria district.400M Uganda Shillingswas funded for the two development projects to improveaccess to safe water and environment for primary school education.

 

The water project has been implemented by Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI) to construct 14 boreholes in the communities while Amuria District Local Government has implemented the project to construct classroom blocks and procureschool furniture and educational text books in three primary schools at Amucu, Amuria and Akore.

 

“Education is vital in fostering the young generation who willcontribute to the country for development,” said H.E. Kazuo Minagawa, the Ambassador of Japan, while officiating the handover that took place at Amuria Primary School. He went on to say that the educational environment will be greatly improved in the region and that the life of all the people in the region will be greatly ameliorated with the boreholes providing safe water. 

 

The donation by Japan is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Japanese Embassy to support community development projects to uplift the life of grassroots people. So far, 147 projects have been funded under the scheme in Uganda since the initiation of GGP in Uganda in 1992.

 

Japan, steadily promoting ownership of and partnership with African countries through Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) process, is committed to boosting economic growth, achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and consolidating peace and good governance in Africa.
